About the event
A gypsy romance... At these words, each of us resonates with some kind of hidden string in our souls and the chords of the daring song «Dark Eyes» or the sad ballad «Coachman, don't drive horses» begin to sound. Gypsy romance is a special story where sadness and fun are intertwined, and feelings are bare to the limit. Here, if sadness, then with a tear, and if fun, then with champagne over the edge and crystal to smithereens. No wonder the fans of this genre were both crowned persons and famous writers, from Pushkin to Tolstoy. From time immemorial, the tunes of «nomads» sounded in palaces and halls of noble meetings, in taverns and at street festivities.
Beautiful and passionate songs were willingly performed by the stars of the first magnitude of the imperial stage: Varya Panina, Yuri Morfessi, Anastasia Vyaltseva and Nikolai Seversky. A special place in this series is occupied by the singer Fedyor Chaliapin, the best performer of the song «Dark Eyes», which the whole world knows and loves. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great singer and we decided to celebrate this event in a special way.
On April 20, the Beaumond restaurant (1200 Hwy 7 unit 5, Thornhill, ON L4J 0E1) will host an evening of gypsy romance «Dark Eyes», where guests will find songs, dances and numerous pleasant surprises.
A journey into the past will be accompanied by delicious dishes prepared according to old Russian recipes. You can taste royal sturgeon fish soup, pies with salmon, spicy herring in a sheepskin coat, meatloaf and lard on boards with horseradish, amber fish bacon and smoked duck breast under herbs, Jaeger-style pork ham and roast veal in mushroom sauce, and many other culinary masterpieces from the best Toronto chef Dmitry Skorobogatov.
We didn't forget about cultural component: Maxim Kravchinsky, the host of the evening, a well-known journalist of the RTVi (Canada) TV channel, will tell the guests about the fascinating history of the gypsy romance.
